Associate Scientist I-II, Molecular Biology & Sequencingback to job list
Mosaic is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist I-II to join our Antibody Discovery & Optimization team, supporting our rapidly growing sequencing and molecular biology capabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist with hands-on molecular biology experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-throughput laboratory environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing samples for sequencing, executing molecular biology workflows, and supporting automation-driven laboratory operations. Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, the individual will perform established laboratory procedures with increasing independence, contribute to troubleshooting routine technical issues, and support continuous improvement of laboratory workflows.
This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, enjoys repetitive technical work with a focus on quality, and takes pride in generating reliable, high-quality data.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform routine molecular biology techniques including PCR, DNA purification, library preparation, cloning, and nucleic acid quantification from a variety of sample types (phage, bacteria, yeast, mammalian).
Execute high-throughput sample preparation workflows to support Sanger, Illumina, and long-read sequencing platforms.
Carefully track samples throughout complex workflows while maintaining exceptional organization and documentation.
Prepare reagents, master mixes, and consumables to support daily laboratory operations.
Analyze routine quality control data and identify potential issues before downstream processing.
Maintain accurate laboratory records using electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Assist with inventory management, reagent preparation, and laboratory organization.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying workflow bottlenecks and implementing process improvements.
Collaborate closely with scientists across sequencing, antibody discovery, and protein engineering teams to ensure timely project execution.
Follow established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and project timelines while maintaining a strong commitment to scientific excellence.
Qualifications Required
B.S. or M.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, or a related life sciences discipline.
Candidates will be considered for the Associate Scientist I or II level based on education and relevant laboratory experience:
Associate Scientist I: Bachelor's degree with 0–2 years of relevant laboratory experience (including academic research, internships, or industry experience).
Associate Scientist II: Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant industry experience or a Master's degree with relevant laboratory experience.
Hands-on experience with common molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR and DNA purification.
Experience with analysis of sequencing data (Sanger or NGS) and common analysis tools (ex: Geneious Biologics) preferred
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining data integrity and sample traceability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Preferred
Experience with automated liquid handling platforms (e.g., Opentrons, Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman, or similar).
Familiarity with Sanger or next-generation sequencing workflows.
Experience using ELNs, LIMS, or other laboratory data management systems.
Exposure to antibody discovery, protein engineering, or synthetic biology workflows.
What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys laboratory work, values precision, and thrives in an environment where consistency and organization are critical. Success in this role requires someone who can execute repetitive technical workflows with a high degree of accuracy while continuously looking for opportunities to improve efficiency through organization and automation.
Candidates hired at the Associate Scientist I level will be expected to develop technical proficiency while working under established procedures and guidance. Candidates hired at the Associate Scientist II level will demonstrate greater independence, contribute to troubleshooting routine technical challenges, and help improve laboratory processes and workflow efficiency. This individual will become an essential member of our sequencing operations, helping deliver high-quality data on tight timelines that supports cutting-edge antibody discovery programs.
