Sr. Scientist I, Antibody Discovery and Optimizationback to job list
We are hiring a Sr. Scientist I to join Mosaic's Antibody Discovery and Optimization team in Boulder, Colorado. The successful candidate will serve as a technical lead on the construction, validation, and screening of surface-displayed antibody libraries and will help shape the scientific strategy of client programs. The ideal candidate has deep, hands-on expertise across display technology (yeast required, phage preferred), including DNA library construction, FACS, and NGS analysis, and has a track record of independently solving complex discovery challenges.
Responsibilities
Independently design and execute complex antibody discovery and affinity maturation campaigns using yeast and phage display, and serve as the technical lead for projects or program components of moderate to high complexity
Construct and optimize libraries using PCR, RT-PCR, Golden Gate/Gibson assembly, and mutagenesis in phage and yeast display vectors
Direct high-throughput screening (HTS) of antibody display campaign outputs using flow cytometry, including selection and refinement of methods and evaluation criteria
Analyze and interpret complex experimental data, integrating multidisciplinary perspectives to guide project-level scientific decisions
Serve as a key scientific point of contact for external partners, preparing and delivering presentations, updates, and reports, and building strong collaborative relationships
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating workflows, timelines, and deliverables, proactively identifying risks to scope, cost, or schedule, and driving mitigation plans to ensure timely delivery of therapeutic leads
Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams such as Protein Science, Protein Engineering, Sequencing, and Project Leadership to plan, execute, and align on project strategies, timelines, and deliverables
Contribute technical input to proposal development, including feasibility assessments and resource estimation, in partnership with Commercial and Project Leadership
Mentor and train scientists, and lead a small group of scientists as needed
Maintain organized, high-quality documentation in an electronic lab notebook (ELN) and LIMS system, and uphold standards for quality and reproducibility
Innovate and establish new strategies and approaches to address challenging targets
Stay current with advances in antibody discovery and display technologies, bringing innovative approaches to the team
Requirements
PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline with 4+ years of related experience (academic postdoctoral and/or industry); Or MS with 8+ years related industry experience.
Demonstrated experience in antibody discovery
Extensive, direct experience with yeast display systems
In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including RT-PCR, PCR, overlap extension PCR, cloning, primer design, and in-silico DNA construct design
Strong experience with flow cytometry and FACS-based selections
Experience in cloning and expression and antibodies/libraries in bacterial and yeast cells
Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound scientific judgment, and lead projects of moderate to high complexity
